At UC Davis Health, we understand the need to work from wherever you are. When you're traveling or working from home please follow these tips to stay secure, connected and productive.
To minimize the impact on UC Davis Health's infrastructure and support resources, please use these options in this order.
- If you have a UC Davis Health laptop, bring it home and start using it. It is already secured and ready for remote work with AnyConnect VPN installed.
- If you don't have a UC Davis Health laptop, use your personal computer (click here to review the personal equipment use security policy)inorder of least complex to most complex setup, here are your options:
- Option 1: Access your most commonly used applications on the web:
- HSAPPSfor remote access to Epic, OWA, RL Solutions and many other applications.
- Office 365for email (requires DUO)
- WebEx:for video and audio conferencing
- Option 2: If you need full access to the UC Davis Health network, file shares/mapped drives and a broader set of specialized applications, use theAnyConnect VPNThis is the most complex setup but provides the broadest access.
- Install AnyConnect VPN
- Your computer must be encrypted, and make sure your computer is backed up.
- Option 1: Access your most commonly used applications on the web:
Box at UC Davis is a cloud-hosted data storage and collaboration service and tool. Box enables you to store lots of large files, collaborate with others around the world, and access your data anywhere on any device. Box has been approved for storage of all university data except “Restricted Data” as defined by UC Business and Finance. Occasionally a need arises to send email from a group or alternate email address. These simple instructions will help you configure your Outlook email client to show email as being sent from another address. This can only be done if your email account has been granted permission to send as the email address that you want to send an email from 1. Open a new Email 2. The 'From' field should be.
- The need for UC Davis Health issued computers is being evaluated by leadership. We have very limited access to additional computers. More inventory has been ordered but global supply chains are stretched due to the COVID-19 impact on China. Cisco Phones and Voicemail
Enable Call Forwarding from your Cisco Phone
- Leave the phone on the hook (no dial tone) and press the FwdAll
- Enter the desired forwarding number (e.g., 9+1+area code+number) or press the Message/Voice Mail Button to forward your calls to voice mail
Cancel Call Forwarding from your Cisco Phone
- Leave the phone one the hook (no dial tone) and press the FwdOFF soft key

- Enter the desired forwarding number (e.g, 9+1+area code+number) or (45070) to forward your calls to voice mail.
Hosting and Attending Remote Meetings using Webex and Zoom
Webex
Webex is a simple, all-in-one solution that lets you meet across desktops, mobile devices, and conference rooms. Webex is free to UC Davis Health faculty, staff and students, and the UC Davis Health Webex instance is approved for use with restricted data.
We've put together a webpage of Webex Resourcesto help you have a Webex meeting that is (almost) as good as being there. We recommend using a headset (like the one that came with your mobile phone) when using Webex.
Zoom
Zoom is a web-based video conferencing tool with a local, desktop client and a mobile app that allows users to meet online, with or without video.
